The Hope of 3-foot Ice Cream Cones
Several months ago, some of the senior couples visited an
ice cream shop in the tourist area of down town Buenos Aires that serves 3-foot-long
chocolate covered ice cream cones and on Tuesday, they invited all of the
seniors to go there after work. So, we left work a few minutes early, rode the
subway all the way to the end of the line, and went looking for giant ice cream
cones.
As soon as we got off the subway, we ran into the Wiese, who
had organized the outing, and they told us the shop is no longer there. They
felt so bad because all of the senior couples in the district were either
already at the location on a street called Avenida Florida, or they were en
route on the subway, so they could not be reached. Pretty soon there were 8
couples standing in the middle of Avenida Florida, which is about a mile long and
has tourist vendors down the middle major stores with American products and
little tourist gift shops on each side. Long ice cream cones were no longer an
option so we decided to all go to the most beautiful Burger King in the world. We
had been there before but some of the couples had not so we marched off in a
bunch.
It is called the most beautiful Burger King in the world
because it is located in an old home and is three stories with beautiful
artisan ceilings on the top floor, like the Sistine Chapel. Here are some
pictures:
Elder Wiese is pretty bold and he asked if we could all go up
to the top floor to eat. The people at Burger King said we could if we bought
something and they gave us each discount coupons for our meals. They were very
nice and accommodating and the food was good.
After eating, we headed back to the subway for our ride back
home. As we approached the subway car, the alarm rang indicating the doors were
closing so Elder Love quickly stepped into the closest door and Sister Love
didn’t make it onto the car. Once the door closes there is no way to open them
so we waved goodbye to each other as Elder Love’s car pulled away. Fortunately,
Sister Love was with the Wieses and they all got on the next train, which was just
a couple of minutes behind. We all met up at our usual stop and walked home. In
all, it was a fun outing.
Las Cabras
We want to also post a picture of an earlier senior outing
to a restaurant called Las Cabras, where you can buy a platter full of steak,
potatoes, rice, cheese, vegetables and soft drinks for two for less than $25,
including tip. We walked about a mile and a half to get there and the same
distance to get home but we had a wonderful time.
Answered Prayers and a Loving Heavenly Father
Finally, while it seems we are always posting pictures and experience that somehow have to do with food, because we are in a new place and the food is wonderful, we actually do real work during the week. It is wonderful to work in a place where we begin our staff meetings with a hymn and a prayer. Every Monday we begin the week with a devotional. Prayer and reliance on the Lord's help are very much a part of the daily work here. In our last post, we asked for your thoughts and
prayers concerning some very difficult situations the Church has been facing in this area and we want to let you know that prayers are heard and the situation we
were concerned about is much better, for which we acknowledge the Lord's help. We are not entirely out of the woods, but things
look much more positive. It is a wonderful, faith-promoting story we wish we
could go into, but please know that we know the Lord loves his Children and began
solving the problems we were dealing with now more than 2 years ago, before we even knew they existed, by having just
the right people meet and develop a friendship and then having them in the
right place at the right time to help His work move forward. We are seeing His
hand in other matters, as well. We know He lives and guides His work. ‘Til next
time.
